Coach to Teach

Faculty engagement in the classroom has the power to inspire or impede student potential to dream, learn and grow in a digital world. When faculty coach to teach and inspire, instruction grows, learning flows and students flourish with potential. Even so, only 34% of university faculty and staff are engaged at school, lowering the likelihood that students will grow (Gallup, 2018). Technology mediated coaching is a powerful tool educators can use to cultivate advancement, engaging learning experiences, academic excellence, and a thriving campus culture.

Coaching can help a university become a happier place to learn and work. Coaching works from a place of strength to empower passions, talents, knowledge, skills and experiences. The fusion of Rogerian person centered coaching practices, experiential learning principles, and technology can engage high-quality instruction, and bring innovative teaching practices to life.

Scaling Faculty Advancement

Now is the time to give faculty the tools to raise engagement and potential to teach with a coaching style. Building a continuous learning culture of coaching can engage faculty to do their most meaningful research and teaching. Moreover, professional development is one the main reasons people accept and stay engaged in a job.

Research analysis conducted on 60 randomized controlled instructional coaching trials shows that coaching is significantly more effective at improving pedagogical instruction quality than other professional teaching learning and development interventions (Kraft & Hogan, 2018; Joyce & Showers, 1982). Yet, the effectiveness of faculty coaching development declines at scale (Kraft & Hogan, 2018). Technology can bring innovative teaching to life, and help shape the future of learning at school and work

Virtual and hybrid/blended teaching with a coaching style can be a transformational catalyst to engage and inspire potential to imagine, learn, and grow. Moreover, technology provides an affordable way to scale faculty access to learning, tools, and resources to coach, teach and inspire excellence — whenever and wherever.

Coach to teach and inspire today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders to excel.

Faculty engagement influences students who thrive with full potential and students who do not grow. Coaching to teach in class strengthens engagement, which, in turn, empowers students to thrive with academic excellence. As an adjunct instructor and learning design architect for online and hybrid graduate degree coaching courses at New York University, and a Coaching Media Psychology doctoral scholar at Fielding Graduate University, I know firsthand that coaching as a teaching style is effective at inspiring academic excellence.

As as a teacher, scholar and researcher, I wholeheartedly believe that when faculty coach, instruction improves, learning flows, engagement grows, and students flourish. The continuous virtual flow of classroom coaching creates a happy place to learn — making it easier to find, keep, and grow the best staff and faculty. That is why I help educators coach to teach and use technology to inspire today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders to imagine, learn, grow — and love.
